So, I am checking my LJ friendslist, and lo and behold, I find
azurelunatic recounting
her adventure to the Borderlands party for
seanan_mcguire's new book,
Rosemary and Rue. I don't know Seanan personally, but she is friend-of-a-few-friends and I have read some of her posts; she's a great writer. And I would like something excellent to read. So! To Borders I go.
I walk up Clark to the nearest Borders, which is at Clark/Broadway/Diversey.
Rosemary and Rue is sitting next to Neal Stephenson's new book, which is a pretty sweet recommendation if you ask me. So I grab it and head for the checkout counter. My cashier is an older guy who is patiently looking up my email (I never have my Borders card, in part because I never expect to go to Borders and just end up there by accident).
Here, the weirdness truly begins. So, as my cashier is fiddling with his register, the cashier next to him (a pleasant lady in a purple sweater) peers over and says, "Oh! That book is so great! I have a friend who's a friend of the author--"
"Oh! Me too!" I exclaim. Just then, my cashier finally locates me in the system and I buy the book.
On my way out, I pause at lady!cashier's station, and ask who her friend is, and are they on livejournal? Indeed, they are! It's
spectralbovine.
...whom I had never heard of before reading
azurelunatic's post about the Borderlands party, where she ran into him.
THE END
(also, the book is great! I'm in the middle right now.)
Especially since i actually just heard of that book on one of my podcasts recently. Perhaps i should also pick it up. <3
